Honors College Connects Nonprofit Testimonials

What led you to get involved with Honors College Connects?

“Having been a resident of Northern Virginia for a few decades, I am familiar with the growth and evolution of GMU. Our organization decided to apply after hearing more about the purpose of the program and the 2-way benefit; It benefits the students in their learning about leadership, community engagement, social responsibility, and benefits nonprofits with the ideas and efforts of the bright young minds in the Honors College.”

What was it like to work with Honors College students?

“The students are smart, creative, caring and dedicated individuals. It was great to work with them. This is a solid program with good leadership and the students learn a lot.”

“The progress report meetings were great. It was helpful to see other projects and how other students were approaching issues similar to our own. Our assigned students were fabulous. They were motivated, hard-working, shared creative ideas. They were responsive to our outreach emails, and they were self-sufficient, not asking us for extraneous data or information.”

“The students did a great job of reviewing our website and reading about our organization, and they spoke so knowledgeably about what we were doing. That knowledge helped them give us a product tailored to us. During the group meetings, several students brought us new ideas to consider and asked us if those ideas would work for us. These ideas were energizing to us, and we left the project with renewed focus.”

What did you value most from this experience?

“What we value most is the interest that the students took in learning about our mission, doing their own research, and then incorporating their learnings into the deliverables. All the students on our project were fully engaged, knowledgeable, and willing to put in the effort to help us.”

“We really value the outputs of students, as well as the fact that they check in so many times throughout the semester. Because there were so many interim check-ins, we knew that the final product was going to be really useful for us.”

“Our organization was able to put the student deliverables to work! Their insights allowed us to develop our grant options, update our flyers and create an application for our program which makes the experience and time spent by employees worthwhile.”
