Honoring Our Community

With the intention of a cultivating and anti-racist culture, Honoring Our Community gives students in the Honors College the opportunity to engage in brave, intentional conversations. Students meet with small groups on a bi-weekly basis throughout the semester to discuss topics involving, racism, equity, discrimination, bias, and other social justice issues. These crucial conversations are led by two facilitators (HC Staff, Peer Facilitators or Grad Facilitators) who bring topics, resources, and guidance to our sessions. After a successful two years running the program, with both virtual and in-person opportunities, we are excited to continue to actively engage in our anti-racist work and offer these discussions again during the 2022-2023 academic year. 

 

“I think that overall, it was an amazing experience. I was able to talk with different people with different backgrounds and see how everyone had a different approach to the many issues we discuss. There was always a new perspective to discuss or a new way of seeing the same topic. “

 

With over a hundred students participating in this program, these conversations help facilitate discussions and a deeper understanding of social issues and allow for an inclusive and accepting community for students and faculty.
