Nissinen brings to the Honors College board extensive experience in economic development, innovation strategy, and global business investment. In her new role, she will lead Arlington County’s long-term economic vision and efforts to strengthen its position as a leading innovation economy.
Prior to joining Arlington, Nissinen served as senior vice president at the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, where she led global initiatives to attract investment, support entrepreneurship, and advance regional competitiveness. Her work has helped position Northern Virginia as one of the nation’s most dynamic economic and technology hubs.
Nissinen joined the Honors College Dean’s Advisory Board last fall and has collaborated with George Mason University leadership to support the Honors College’s mission and to prepare students to create bold solutions for a changing world by expanding opportunities for students. Her expertise in building partnerships across government, industry, and higher education directly reflects the Honors College’s commitment to preparing students for multidisciplinary collaboration on the grand solutions of tomorrow.
