Adam Phillips, Fulbright ETA Scholar 2011-2012, Germany

“I had a wonderful year working as an assistant English teacher in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany. I found many ways to get involved in my school while working with the English program, participating in music classes (I studied Music Education at GMU), rehearsing and directing my school’s jazz band, and leading a four-day School of Rock music camp. Not only did I find my school community amazing, but due to my housing situation I became involved with a fun group of Erasmus international students from all over Europe studying at the local university.  I felt like a citizen of the world and really enjoyed being surrounded by people from so many cultures and nations. I had the pleasure of learning countless new things, and I hope that I was a good American ambassador. Being thrust out into the world has made a huge impact on my life and has motivated me to continue my adventures in teaching English and to pursue my relationship with my girlfriend in Saint Petersburg, Russia this next year. Thank you, dankeschön, and спасибо William J. Fulbright Program for making this past year possible.”
