It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Honors College, the vibrant center of undergraduate intellectual life at George Mason University. The faculty and staff of the college are pleased and proud to provide a diverse selection of programs, services, and classes for highly motivated students such as yourself. No matter your major or outside interests, the design and variety of college offerings will support you in pursuing your goals. From your first days on campus, members of Mason’s most distinguished faculty will mentor, advise, and instruct you.

The college commitment to excellence is not limited to academics, as you will find intellectual challenge in equal measure with community support and involvement. With each entering class capped at about 200 (out of approximately 2,500 entering freshmen), you will have all the benefits of a small college community connected to the resources of a large university. You will have the opportunity to engage with this select community not only in classes, but also in the Honors College Residence Halls, study groups, and lounge, on field trips, through service projects, and at regularly scheduled honors gatherings. Participation in the Honors College will enable you to develop long-term connections with other students seeking to be challenged in new ways and who share your motivation to learn – not only about the subjects that directly feed into your specific academic and professional goals, but also about issues and topics that relate to you more broadly as a citizen.

In hopes that you will find both the challenge and the community you seek in the next phase of your education, and with all best wishes,

Dean Burr
